Geneva ninth grader Emma Cress organized hurricane relief efforts for citizens in Port Aransas and Rockport following the destruction of Hurricane Harvey.
She called for the Geneva School community to donate non-perishable food and water as well as school supplies that she gave to the community food banks in those cities.
Items collected filled three 30-foot U-Haul trucks and were delivered to the aptly named “New Beginnings Church” which is serving as a central coordination point for recovery assistance. The collection provided enough food and water to support an estimated 200 families in Rockport, Port Aransas, and Aransas Pass. In addition, about 100 elementary school students will be helped with donated school supplies once school resumes in the weeks to come.
