Non Nobis

There are 220 individuals who have the privilege of calling themselves graduates of the Geneva School of Boerne.  This year, an additional 39 will earn that right.  The Class of 2018 is Geneva’s eighth graduating class.  You can read the profiles of the Class of 2018 HERE.

This year’s Commencement Exercises will take place on Saturday, May 26 at University United Methodist Church (5084 De Zavala, San Antonio) starting at 11:00 am.  The Geneva School community is invited to join us as we celebrate the completion of a Geneva School education for our seniors.

The hour and a half long service will feature musical performances by Rhetoric School students, bagpipe processional and recessional by 2016 graduate Drei Richardson, a charge to the graduates from Rhetoric School Headmaster Rob Shelton, the conferring of diplomas, a blessing from our faculty choir and a postlude featuring 2015 graduate Tory Palermo.  The ceremony is a joyful and God honoring affair.

Near the end of the ceremony, all in attendance will be invited to join together to sing the Latin hymn Non Nobis:

Non nobis domine, domine

Non nobis domine

Sed nomine, sed nomine

Tuo da gloriam

The hymn is from Psalm 115:1:  “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory.”

Singing this hymn at the end of each school year serves as a fitting reminder that we exist not for our own glory but for the glory of God.  Please join us next Saturday as we seek to do just that – end our school year giving glory to God as we congratulate the Class of 2018.
