Varsity Athletes Find Success This Spring

Geneva’s varsity athletes compete in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) at the 4A level.  Here is a recap of spring sports.

TENNIS

Several Geneva School of Boerne varsity tennis team members qualified to compete in the TAPPS 4A State Tennis Tournament which was held in Waco on April 16-17. The boys’ team finished in fourth place and the girls in seventh.

Competing for the Eagles on the boys’ side were Anson Eggerss in singles and the doubles teams of Daniel Grover/Grant Williams and Tyler McBroom/Nathan Young. Eggerss lost to the number one seed from Houston Northland Christian School in the first round.  After winning two rounds, the team of Grover/Williams finished in third place with a loss to Fort Worth Lake Country Christian School in the semifinals. The team of McBroom/Young won their first round match and were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Waco Vanguard College Preparatory. The doubles team of Braden Hall/Gracyn Freiling represented Geneva in girls’ doubles. They advanced to the semifinals after winning two matches, but eventually fell to a team from Amarillo San Jacinto Christian.

The Eagles tennis team is coached by Leslie Taylor and practices at the Fair Oaks Golf and Country Club courts under the instruction of tennis pro Warren Rohmfeld.

TRACK & FIELD

Geneva’s varsity track and field teams won both the girls and the boys TAPPS 4A District 3 Championships on April 19 at San Marcos Baptist Academy. They advanced to the TAPPS South Regional Meet on Friday, April 27 in Webster near Houston.  At the regional meet, the girls team placed 2nd with a score of 131 behind Woodlands Christian with a score of 151.  The boys team placed 5th with a score of 56.

At the TAPPS State Track Meet in Waco May 4 & 5, the girls team placed 3rd with a score of 77, behind 1st place Covenant Colleyville (95 points) and 2nd place Woodlands Christian (84.5 points). The boys team placed 10th at State (out of 26 teams).

  • Amy Ambelang – 1st in 100m hurdles; 1st in 300m hurdles; 2nd in Long Jump
  • Sara Beth Stolle – 1st in High Jump
  • Marshall Shults – 1st in Discus
  • Reese Ferguson – 2nd place in 100m dash; 4th in 200m dash
  • Jacqueline Knox – 2nd in Pole Vault
  • Scott Janse – 3rd in 110m hurdles
  • Women’s 4 x 400m relay – 4th
  • Emme Owens – 6th in 800m run
  • Grace Zara – 8th in 100m hurdles; 7th in 300m hurdles
  • Men’s 4 x 400m relay – 7th
  • Easton Myrick – 7th in Pole Vault
  • Women 4 x 200m relay – 8th

GOLF

The TAPPS 4A South Regional Golf Tournament was held at Fort Sam Houston on April 23.  The girls placed 4th, enough to move on to the next round. The team is Abby and Elle Albracht, Catarina Flores and Jayne Goodman. The boys won the event with a new all-time school team low score of 304. Soren Burkholder shot 74, Cade Barone shot 75, Gage Kohler shot 76, Brady Weekley shot 79 and Hayes Hutton shot 81. The team is instructed by Scott Johnson, Director of Instruction at Fair Oaks Ranch. The teams are coached by Kirk Riggs and Susan Greenlees.  For the girls it is their 9th consecutive trip to State and for the boys it is their 8th trip in 9 years and 7th consecutive.

The TAPPS 4A State Golf Championship was held April 30 and May 1 at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.   The Geneva School of Boerne boys varsity golf team placed third at State while the girls placed 7th at State.

BASEBALL

Geneva’s varsity baseball team finished the regular season with a record of 11-13 (10-4 in district).  The team finished in 3rd place in district and traveled to Woodlands Christian for the first round of the playoffs where they lost 12-2.
