The Grammar School celebrated reading completed over the summer break with the annual Summer Reading Awards Assembly. Geneva School Librarian Lisa Patti and Grammar School Headmaster Jessica Gombert recognized 306 students with awards—286 students earned gold, 13 students received silver and seven students earned bronze medals. These students (and teachers who participated in the summer reading challenge) read a combined total of 513,825 pages over the summer.

Twenty-five fifth grade students received a chocolate bar for going “Above and Beyond” by reading over 1,700 pages. Two of these fifth graders were recognized for going “WAY Above and Beyond.” Elle Chalmers read 22,276 pages and her classmate, JonMichael Raimondo, set a new school record by reading 28,079 pages. JonMichael also wrote all of his summaries in cursive handwriting.

“This grand total of reading over half a million pages by the Grammar School was the most pages read over a summer in Geneva’s history! I am so pleased and proud of each of these students and teachers,” Mrs. Patti said.
