This Week in History
On February 4, 1789 George Washington was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States of America with a vote from every single one of the 69 electors participating. Each voting elector possessed two votes. With the second highest vote count, John Adams was elected as the Vice President. Only 10 of the 13 states participated, excluding New York who failed to appoint electors in time along with North Carolina and Rhode Island who had not yet ratified the Constitution. In 1804, this practice changed where separate ballots were given for the office of president and vice president. With this election came the establishment of the Executive branch.
Did You Know?
Did you know that the Valedictorian and Salutatorians have been named for the class of 2026? This year’s Valedictorian is Elle Chalmers and Co-Salutatorians are Sopris Oglesby and Abigail Bussey. A huge congrats and job well done to all three of you!
Fun Faculty Fact
Humanities and AP Government Instructor, Daniel Player, has been at Geneva since 2019. He has taught in all three schools as a 5th grade, 8th grade, and now 12th grade teacher. He also worked for Younglife in the San Antonio area for 20 years. He has climbed 14 14-ers, has run 7 spartan races, coached basketball, and could dunk until he was 40. He is Assistant Head of School, Amy Metzger’s, baby brother, but I think his most notable accomplishment and title is being my dad. I sure love having my dad on campus– proud of you dad!
