This Week in History

September 29th- 1988 Stacy Allison, of Portland, Oregon, became the first American woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth. The summit of Everest reaches two-thirds of the way through the air of the earth’s atmosphere – at about the cruising altitude of jet airliners.

October 4, 1927, sculpting began on the face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. It would take another 12 years for the granite images of four of America’s most revered presidents—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt—to be completed.

Did You Know?

Do you know why the building to the right of the MPB is called the Old Admin? This portable was the original administration building on campus. It was placed just to the right of what now is the grammar office and was purchased from Regents School of Austin in 2004. After its life as the administration building, it was moved to where it is now and became the business office for a time and currently holds 9 staff members– the Head Of School, HR, operations, and members of the advancement team. It may have no running water but its legacy is foundational to the story of our campus.
