This Week in History
October 13, 1792: The cornerstone was laid on this day for a presidential residence in the newly designated capital city of Washington, D.C. In 1800, President John Adams became the first president to reside in the executive mansion, which soon became known as the “White House” because its white-gray Virginia freestone contrasted strikingly with the red brick of nearby buildings.
October 14, 1066: The Battle of Hastings: On this day, William the Conqueror defeated King Harold II in the Battle of Hastings, marking the beginning of Norman rule in England.
Did You Know?
Did you know that since 2011, we have had 37 college athletes. Out of our 625 graduates, that is 6% of our alumni that have gone on to play sports in college. Another impressive stat!
Fun Faculty Fact
Logic Latin teacher, Morgan Brown, worked for her family’s custom boot shop as her first job. Her great great grandfather was a cobbler and shoe salesman in San Antonio in 1915 and her family’s boot shop is still in business today. For anyone who has ever had Mrs Brown for Latin, now you know why she always loves to boot scoot– fancy shoes are in her genes.
