This Week in History

November 8, 1895 German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen discovered x rays while experimenting with cathode rays at his University. He discovered that invisible rays could pass through solid objects and cause a fluorescent screen to glow. His first x-ray was taken on his wife’s hand, where they could see the bones in her hand and her wedding ring. Within weeks scientists and doctors across Europe and the US were building their own x-ray machines. Early on, X-ray machines were used in shoe stores to see how shoes fit until health risks of radiation were better understood. This discovery led to the first Nobel Prize in Physics and paved the way for CT scans, MRI and PET imaging, security scanners, and the entire field of diagnostic radiology.

Did You Know?

Did you know that EagleFest was originally known as Harvest Fest? In 1999, Geneva School of Boerne opened its doors with just a handful of students and faculty. That Fall, our Founding Families decided they wanted to gather to thank God for His goodness to the school and enjoy an afternoon of fun together. The tradition has carried on for many years and is now known as EAGLEFEST! 🦅 Join us for this year’s Eaglefest on November 7 to again, thank God for His abundant goodness to our school.

Fun Faculty Fact

College Counselor/Academic Advisor, Shelly Ward, had a whole different career before her move to Geneva. She previously was in corporate consulting and even started her own company. She was first exposed to Classical Education when she decided to enroll her 2 children into a Classical Christian school in Houston. She was so excited about it that she decided to join them there as a teacher. When there were no math positions open, she taught herself Latin so that she could take the Latin job opening. Now that is some dedication. Her family then moved to Geneva, where her children, Logan and Miranda, graduated. It might not be a known fact that Mrs. Ward is a latin pro, but it is a very known fact that she is an amazing Academic Advisor who loves her students deeply. We are so thankful for you Mrs. Ward!
