This year’s theme is Hope from Psalm 71:5:
“For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.”

This Week in History

On December 17th, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first ever successful flight in North Carolina. This history-making flight lasted a total of 12 seconds and covered 120 feet.Over the next handful of years, the Wright brothers further developed their planes but didn’t make their successes public in order to secure patents and contracts for their machines. In 1909 the US Army purchased one of their planes after the Wright brothers met the Army’s challenging performance requirements. This aircraft was the first military heavier-than-air machine bought by any country. If you want to see the historic Wright brothers’ aircraft of 1903, you can visit the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC where it is on permanent display.

Did You Know?

Did you know that Geneva launched a new initiative this year called GENMED? – GENMED stands for Grace Empowered Network for Medical Education and Discipleship and is open for all Rhetoric School students interested in exploring careers in healthcare. This program is designed to inspire and inform students considering paths in: Medicine & nursing, Dentistry & dental hygiene, Allied health careers (PT, OT, Speech Pathology, etc.), Healthcare administration, and more! Through guest speakers, hands-on activities, discussions, career pathway guidance, and faith-centered exploration students have learned more about healthcare and the role of faith and service within these fields.

Fun Faculty Fact

Assistant Band Director, Erin Thomas, studied music in both Houston and Chicago where she earned three music degrees in Education and trumpet performance. She is principal cornet of the San Antonio Brass Band and chairman of the board of the San Antonio Brass. She is already doing much for the American people, but she also has performed in England with the all-woman Athena Brass Band. Not only is she a gifted musician, she can also lift over 600 lbs combined between bench press, squat, and deadlift. Mrs. Thomas is amazing and we are so thankful she is here at Geneva.
