Highlights from this Week’s Fly By
Welcome to the Fly By with Callyanne McCrea
School Theme for the Year
This year’s theme is Hope from Psalm 71:5:
“For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.”
Key Reminders
- Let’s Talk with Leslie Moeller Leslie Moeller sat down with Annie Mays, Associate Regional Director for Young Life in the San Antonio area, for a multi-episode series about technology and Jonathan Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation. Was the launch of social media a mass experiment on our children? Is keeping your child home with full access to the internet safer than letting them roam outside? Are our children learning how to have peer-to-peer conflict and resolution? Listen to the first episode to hear Leslie and Annie’s thoughts and what we can do to help change course. Link can be found on the Landing.
- The Pursuit We hope you are enjoying the new Geneva publication, The Pursuit, that hit your mailboxes last week. There are many stories to highlight at Geneva, of which we are only able to share a few, that represent The Pursuit towards which a Geneva classical, Christian education aims– a different school for a different life. This new publication was produced by members of the Advancement Team.

This Week in History
On January 12, 1908, French pioneer Gustave Ferrié sent the first long-distance wireless message from the Eiffel Tower using Morse code. This was a significant milestone for radio technology, using the tower itself as a giant antenna. Originally built as a temporary structure, the tower’s scientific utility, particularly for radio, proved its lasting value, leading to its conversion into a vital communications hub, a function that continues today. The same man that designed the Eiffel tower, Gustave Eiffel, also engineered the internal structure of the Statue of Liberty. Two world wide beloved monuments.
Did You Know?
Did you know that the first daddy daughter dance was hosted by the class of 2012 to raise money for their class trip to Europe? That first year of this dance, Rhetoric school students made individual calls to Geneva dads inviting them to the dance encouraging them to attend and bring their daughters. This year, the daddy daughter dance will be February 21st.
Fun Faculty Fact
Rhetoric Math Instructor, Cayce Mann, graduated in a class of 18 people at a school just like Geneva but in Waco Texas. This school, Live Oak, had houses similar to ours and she even presented a thesis. You should ask her about it because it was on our school’s theme this year, Hope. Some other fun and interesting things about Mrs. Mann is that she has visited 11 countries, has held a shark, and has a Master’s degree. We are so thankful for the wisdom Mrs. Mann shares with her students and that the Lord brought her to Geneva.
