Highlights from this Week’s Fly By

Welcome to the Fly By with Callyanne McCrea

School Theme for the Year

This year’s theme is Hope from Psalm 71:5:
“For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.”

  • Logic School Preview Logic School is excited to host 5th grade parents and students this Friday, January 23rd at 9:30am in the Lyceum. Parents will hear from Mrs. Lutz, Dr. Carpenter, Fine Arts, and Athletics. Students will be able to tour the Logic School and visit classrooms with an 8th Grade Boule member.
  • Re-Enrollment Re-enrollment is now open until January 30th to guarantee your child’s place at Geneva next year.
  • Grandparent Lunch Invite your grandmas and grandpas for Grandparent Lunch January 29th at 11:30am in the Lyceum. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and special friends of GSB are all invited to attend for lunch and a lecture by Leslie Moeller. See The Landing for RSVP information.

This Week in History

This week in history, we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr day, which was the reason for yesterday’s day off from school. As a nation we intentionally take time to honor and celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. A man who courageously and fearlessly championed racial equality and justice. He fought against segregation and discrimination through peaceful protesting and gave his life pursuing unity. You may have heard his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech from 8th grade students at Oratory last month. A speech where he shares his dream of equality for all.

Did You Know?

This is Nurse Megan Ives– Did you know that sickness is going around? Students should not attend school if he or she has had fever, vomiting or diarrhea related to an illness within 24 hours. And remember, wash your hands and say your prayers cause germs and Jesus are everywhere.

Fun Faculty Fact

Logic school teacher, Debbie Wheeler, is in her 20th year at Geneva where all of her children graduated. She has taught every grade level in Logic and Rhetoric except for 11th grade. Along with Mrs. Moeller, Mrs. Wheeler started the thesis program here and taught the class for the first 5 years. Her favorite book she teaches is Scarlett Pimpernel. Mrs. Wheeler starts her day on her porch with a cup of coffee, her dog, and the Lord.
