This Week in History

On April 30 1952, Mr. Potato Head becomes the first toy advertised on TV. The original package came with 30-stick on facial features and sold for 98 cents. With the help of the TV ad, Mr. Potato head sold more than 1 million in its first year.

Did You Know?

Did you know that Benefit has been happening since the very first year of Geneva? Geneva’s founders and the first Board of Trustees believed that if the richness of Geneva’s classical, Christian curriculum could somehow be displayed by the children, the school and community at large would “benefit” and be blessed. As a result, during the inaugural year at Geneva in 2000, the entire student body of 13 children presented the very first Benefit performance to an audience of 150 in the home of a Geneva grandparent. It was the first school fundraiser towards the “nest egg” needed for a future land purchase with the dream of a permanent campus which became a reality in 2004 as the school moved to 31 acres on Cascade Caverns Road. The Benefit has continued each spring since that time and has helped the school make significant improvements to our Cascade Caverns campus which has grown to 72 acres. Generosity of those who are listening and those who came before have made these improvements possible. As a former cross country coach, I am especially excited for the running trail that Benefit is raising money for this year. We’ll see you this Thursday night April 30th for the Logic/Rhetoric Benefit and Friday night May 1st for the Grammar Benefit.
